Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine.It is celebrated annually on February 14.Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance in many regions around the world.

There are several different theories about the origins of Valentine’s Day.

The Valentines honored on February 14 are Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni. Valentine of Rome was a priest in Rome who was martyred in 269 and was added to the calendar of saints by Pope Galesius in 496.
Valentine of Terni became bishop of Interamna and is said to have been martyred during the persecution under Emperor Aurelian in 273.

Cupid is a well-known symbol of Valentine’s Day. He is armed with a bow and arrows in order to pierce people’s hearts.In Roman mythology, Cupid is the son of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.In ancient Greece, Cupid was known as Eros, the young son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.

The ancient Romans held the festival of Lupercalia on February 15 to protect themselves from wolves. Men struck people with strips of animal hide; women believed that this made them more fertile.

In 1537, England’s King Henry VII officially declared Feb. 14 the holiday of St. Valentine’s Day.
