What all you need to know about the 17th Lok Sabha Elections?
India conducting its 17th Lok Sabha Elections approximately 900 million voters – more than the combined population of the U.S. and the European Union – are eligible to participate in the worlds biggest electoral exercise.
The elections would be concluded by May 19th. Results would be declared on May 23.
Voters from 29 states along with the seven federally- administered territories will elect 543 members to the lower house of parliament called the “Lok Sabha” or House of the people over the course of more than a month.
The party or coalition with a simple majority is invited to form a government. The MPs from the winning party or coalition elect the leader whom they want to see as the Prime Minister of the country.
At least 2.354 parties are registered with the Election Commission of India – an autonomous constitutional body- for the 17th House of the people elections. Only around 500 of them are expected to field candidates.
